Clinically Complicated

I’ve had labels put on me since I was 17.

Some of them helped explain what the hell was going on in my head. Some changed over the years. Some made sense and some didn’t. But none of them ever explained me.

That’s where Clinically Complicated came from.

You can write down the symptoms, give them a code, put them in a chart, diagnose them, medicate them, study them, whatever. You still can’t fit an entire human being into a checkbox.

And apparently some of us need more boxes than others.

The back of this shirt looks like somebody tried to turn a whole person into a case file. Clinically Complicated is right across the top, and Subject Cannot Be Summarized sits underneath it because that really is the whole point.

I’m not against diagnosis. Sometimes finally having a name for what your brain is doing is actually a relief. But there’s a big difference between having a diagnosis and becoming nothing but one.

The little case-file details, warning labels, barcodes and research markings are supposed to feel cold and clinical. Like paperwork trying to explain somebody who was never going to fit neatly on the page anyway.

Good luck with that.

The front has the smaller Chaos Theøry Research Division / Subject 00Ø graphic, while the back carries the full design. It’s a black unisex graphic tee with front and back printing, part of The Label Lab, and made for anybody who has ever felt like there was a lot more going on than whatever somebody wrote down in a file.

CODE THE SYMPTOMS. NOT THE PERSON.

SUBJECT CANNOT BE SUMMARIZED.

Because apparently “it’s complicated” applies to brains too.
