I’ve had enough prescriptions, medication changes, refill conversations, warning labels, and paperwork in my life that eventually the whole system started feeling a little absurd.

That is where Controlled Substance came from.

The design looks like somebody took a prescription record, a pharmacy label, and half of my mental health history and ran them through a broken copier.

There’s CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE across the top, redacted patient information, dosage and refill details, warning marks, a prescription bottle, and REGULATED ≠ NORMAL sitting underneath the whole thing.

Because being treated does not suddenly turn you into some perfectly regulated version of yourself.

I can take my meds and still have bad days. I can follow the instructions and still overthink everything. I can do everything I’m “supposed” to do and still end up asking myself why can’t I just take my meds and have my brain cooperate like a normal piece of equipment.

Apparently that wasn’t included in the prescription.

This design isn’t about glorifying medication or controlled substances. It came from the very real experience of having parts of your life documented, monitored, prescribed, adjusted, and reduced to information on a label while the actual person is considerably more complicated.

The tee itself is a Bella + Canvas 3001 with a lightweight unisex fit, soft combed and ring-spun cotton, and pre-shrunk construction. Heather colors contain polyester.
