I’ve spent a lot of years having people ask questions about my brain, write things down, change medications, change diagnoses, add notes, take notes, compare notes. After a while you start to feel like somebody should just slap a barcode on you and call it a day.

That is pretty much where Test Subject 00Ø came from.

There’s something strange about having so much of your life documented and still feeling like the actual person gets lost somewhere in the file. People can know your diagnosis, your symptoms, what medication you take and what somebody wrote about you during an appointment and still not really know you at all.

So I took that feeling and turned it into this hoodie.

The front has the smaller Test Subject 00Ø graphic, almost like an ID marker. Then the back is the whole mess. Skull, brain, barcodes, warning labels, research notes, classified markings, subject numbers and all the little details that make it look like somebody has been trying very hard to figure this person out.

Apparently the results are still inconclusive.

The part I keep coming back to is SUBJECT CANNOT BE SUMMARIZED. Because you really can’t summarize somebody with a diagnosis, a code, a chart or a list of symptoms. Those things can explain parts of a person. They can be helpful. They can matter.

They still aren’t the whole story.

It’s a black pullover hoodie with the smaller graphic on the front and the full Test Subject 00Ø design across the back. It belongs in The Label Lab because this whole collection came from that gap between what gets written down about us and who we actually are when nobody is looking at the paperwork.

For anybody who has ever felt analyzed, misunderstood, overexplained or just too damn complicated to fit neatly in a box.
